Mediating between scientists and journalists: a media training hosted by the Environmental Research Network

News

„How can I effectively communicate my research to different media outlets in a captivating, relatable way without oversimplifying it?” – This was one of many interesting questions discussed in a praxis-oriented media training for environmental researchers of all disciplinary backgrounds organized by the Environmental Research Network and co-financed by the Center for Doctoral Studies of the University of Vienna. On 22.09.2020 the two media experts Nora Gau and Marlene Nowotny offered a diverse group of PhDs and Post-Docs a practice space for effective science communication skills in print, tv, radio, and social media. Closing off the very successful event with a roundtable on interdisciplinary environmental research in the media, the panellists agreed: it has never been more important to get our research results out there – and media builds the bridge between science and society.
