News

CMESS is home to four of the world's most cited researchers. The annual list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year publication year in the “Web of Science” citation index.

Accordingly, the four CMESS researchers are among the one percent of the world's most cited researchers in their fields of research. Thereby, CMESS is the institution of the University of Vienna with the most highly cited researchers. In total, eleven scholars from the University of Vienna can be found on this list.

The number of citations is an indicator of the extraordinary impact these scientists have on the research community. Holger Daims and Michael Wagner are among the most cited researchers in the category Microbiology. Michael Wagner has been on the list continuously since 2014. Andreas Richter and Thomas Rattei have, too, been among the highly cited researchers in previous years. Both are listed in the Cross-Field category, dominating citations in more than one research field.
